Clos La Coutale 2019 Cahors
80% Malbec and 20% Merlot. Plummy, dark fruits, compote, and a rustic earthiness. Malbec, or Côt as the locals call it, is a bit more tannic than what you might find in Argentina and also less fruity. But this more modern take on the dense, open it in 20+ years style of Cahors of yesteryear, is easy to like and enjoy young. The addition of Merlot is part of the softer style. Aged in large oak foudre and 1 and 2 year Bordeaux barrels, this shows a deft use of oak that doesn't steal the show.
