Explorers' Seasonal Value Pack: Autumn - Wines of Gold and Crimson
Great Wines Don't Have to be Expensive!
The Fall Seasonal Value Pack
As the days get shorter, and nights get cooler wine choices start to lean towards rounder and fuller styles. There is still plenty of time for outdoor dining, and fire-pit gatherings, and, as we live in New England we should always expect a burst of summer to take us by surprise even in November. With this in mind we need wine selections to be versatile and pair with food menus that straddle the changing seasons. This year’s Fall Explorers’ Pack is up to the challenge and is equally divided with whites and reds.
This pack contains a medium to light white blend from Portugal; a crisp, but lively Semillon from Australia; a rich, yet mineral driven white wine made primarily from the Verdicchio grape in central Italy; a red wine for just about any season from Minervois in the Langedoc region of France; a California Cabernet that, while not bombastic, will tick off all the requisite characteristics that Cab lovers love; and from Spain a biodynamic, lithe, and earthy Rioja.
While some folks have had these grapes, or wines from these places before, others have not, or maybe these particular bottles are new to you. This is the point of the Explorers' Packs: to try something you haven't had before - whether it is something you've never heard of, or something from a familiar style or place, but from a wine-maker that is new to you.
This Explorers' Pack is discounted at nearly 20% off regular prices. No further discounts apply.

Varzea da Pedra 2021 Óbidos Branco Colheita60% Fernão Pires and 40% Arinto. Subtle aromas of tangerine, mandarin orange, bosc pear, orange blossom, mineral, and a nutty, leesy note. This crisp, clean, and bright blend is subtle in it’s personality but builds character with time in the glass. Hand harvested, then spontaneously fermented, and aged on the lees in stainless steel for 10 months. Pair with cod, fisherman's stew, mussels, soft cheeses, and potato tortilla.

Torbreck 2022 Semillon “Woodcutter’s”100% Semillon. Pineapple, lemon curd, citrus, apple, spice and leesy. Medium-bodied white with a creamy but bright texture. As the wine opens up, the edges start to soften and the broader, almost waxy palate coating develops. Persistent finish. Pair this with chicken, fish, Indian food, and firm or semi-firm cheeses.. |

La Calcinara 2022 IGT Marche Bianco “Clochard”90% Verdicchio with 10% Chardonnay and Malvasia. Honeydew melon, pear, and citrus, with clove, white flowers, and almond. This is classic white wine from Italy. Ripe fruit aromas and flavors without going tropical, and that tell-tale slightly bitter finish. An excellent food wine! Pretty upfront with a long and tactile finish. Pair with ocean fish, roast fowl, and a sharp pecorino. |
Viña Ilusión 2021 Rioja
90% Tempranillo, with the remaining 10% a mix of Garnacha and Graciano. Red and black fruits, with cherry and plum, orange peel, tobacco, and freshly turned soil.
