Explorers' Seasonal Value Pack: Spring - Terra di Vini Primaverili
Great Wines Don't Have to be Expensive!
This Explorer is a selection of all Italian wine, which is a first for the seasonal samplers, as I try not to have more than one wine from the same country in the packs. Another first is there are two wines with some fizz. These packs ARE meant to be different! The wines are geared towards spring and early summer, so most are light to medium-bodied, with some good acidity to spark the appetite. These bottles are certainly not solely for spring, but they do lend themselves nicely to grilling, spring holiday roasts, and of course anything Italian!
There are three thought-provoking white wines, all three made from single varieties. The first is from a western area of Emilia-Romagna, home of Parm and Prosciutto, made from an obscure grape called Ortrugo and is frizzante; the second is also from Emilia-Romagna, more to the east and made from the international Pinot Bianco; the third white is another single variety called Fiano and this hails from much further south in Campania.
The three reds are just as interesting. The first red is a Lambrusco from Lombardy, a dry, frizzante red; the second red is probably the least exotic of the bunch, a liter bottle of Barbera from Piedmont made by one of the store’s most popular natural wineries - Cellario; and finally the third red is a blend of another obscure grape called Petit Rouge and Gamay from the Vallee d’Aosta above Piedmont.
This is our 5th Spring pack and as this is an equinox the wines are divided evenly with white and red. As always the wines show a wide range of styles and weights to offer diversity for various tastes.
While some folks have had these grapes or wines from these places before, others have not, or maybe these particular bottles are new to you. This is the point of the Explorers' Packs: to try something you haven't had before - whether it is a wine you are completely unfamiliar with or whether the wine is a from a familiar grape or place but perhaps from an unfamiliar wine-maker; these packs aim to offer something different.
This Explorers' Pack is discounted just shy of 20% off regular prices. No further discounts apply.
