Shelburne 2019 Iapetus Subduction Red

100% Marquette. Black cherries, blackberries, black pepper, hint of lavender, and tobacco. Marquette is a hybrid grape, meaning the parentage is Vitis vinifera and an American species like Vitis labrusca or rupestris. Marquette has some Pinot Noir genes as well as Frontenac, a well known hybrid grown successfully in Vermont. The wine is a marvel of complexities and surprises. The aromas are enticing and leads you down a familiar path, but the flavors and the taste take you down another road. Not a shortcut, but an excitingly scenic, slower road. This full-bodied, but balanced Vermont red is a fabulous ride.
